Biography

Sergio Gorjón is Head of the Means of Payment and Market Infrastructures Innovation Division at the Banco de España and serves as an external consultant to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. His Division carries out both research and policy-oriented work, providing high-level strategic advice on the drivers, impacts and potential public policy responses associated with the digital transformation of the payments industry. The Division is also responsible for coordinating the Banco de España’s internal role in the Spanish regulatory innovation sandbox. Its main areas of focus include fintech developments, private digital assets, blockchain technologies and central bank digital currencies. In addition, the Division provides Secretariat support to the Banco de España’s Board member representative in the Digital Euro High-Level Task Force.
