Biography
Raivo Vanags is responsible for foreign reserve management and monetary policy operations at Latvijas Banka, where he also serves as Deputy Head of the Investment Committee. He represents the bank on the European Central Bank Market Operations Committee. Mr. Vanags has nearly three decades of investment experience and has been with Latvijas Banka since 2002. He served as a Board Member from 2008 to 2021, until amendments to the Law on Latvijas Banka introduced a single-tier governance model and the Board structure was dissolved. He is the author of several working papers and a frequent speaker at sovereign reserve management conferences. Before joining Latvijas Banka, he worked as an equities analyst at Latvijas Zemes Banka, led the boutique brokerage and insurance firm Vertspapiri, and played a key role in establishing Regionala Investiciju Banka. Mr. Vanags holds a B.Sc. in Business Administration and Economics from Stockholm School of Economics in Riga and an M.Sc. in Economics, specialising in Finance and Credit, from University of Latvia. He is also a CFA charterholder.
