Valérie Fasquelle is General Director of the Information System (DGIS) at Banque de France. The general directorate (800 people) is in particular in charge of designing, developing and operating information systems used in all of the Banque de France sectors of activity (monetary policy, statistics, payments, banking supervision…). Innovation has in this context an important value and the DGIS set-up in 2017 “the Lab”, the Banque de France innovation centre which gives internal teams a support for thinking “out of the box” and imagining their businesses. The Banque de France is also hosting the Paris working space of the Eurosystem centre of the BIS Innovation Hub. Through the various responsibilities she held, Valérie Fasquelle has been deeply involved in the field of innovation, in particular relating to payments and market infrastructures. She notably initiated and steered the Banque de France experimentation program on wholesale Central Bank Digital Currency between 2020 and 2021, which aims at exploring the risks and opportunities for clearing and settlement procedures of tokenised financial assets. She headed up the directorate in charge of payments, innovation and infrastructures and was also deeply involved in Eurosystem large scale projects aiming at setting up the European RTGS and SSS systems. ValérieFasquelle is also member of international fora such as the Eurosystem committees and the Bank of International Settlements committees. Before joining the Banque de France in 1993 as an expert in payments, Mrs Valérie Fasquelle graduated from the Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris and with a post-graduate degree in Economics from the Dauphine University in Paris.
